Why Choose TONFUL Female Header
Superior Contact Retention
Unlike cheap connectors that loosen over time, our female headers feature precision-stamped tuning-fork (Y-type) or U-type Phosphor Bronze contacts. This ensures high retention force, excellent vibration resistance, and reliable mating even after hundreds of plugging cycles.
Versatile Profile Heights
Achieving the exact distance between parallel PCBs is critical. We offer a vast array of insulator heights—from ultra-low profile designs for compact consumer electronics to elevated custom heights (e.g., 5.0mm, 7.1mm, 8.5mm) for specific industrial PCB stacking.
High-Temperature Insulators for SMT
For automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT), our female headers utilize advanced plastics like LCP and PA6T (UL94 V-0 rated). These insulators flawlessly withstand reflow soldering oven temperatures up to 260°C without blistering or warping.
Top, Bottom & Dual Entry Options
We accommodate complex PCB routing by offering Top-Entry (standard), Bottom-Entry (allows mating pins to pass through the PCB from underneath), and Dual-Entry configurations, providing engineers with maximum design flexibility for tight spaces.
Automated Assembly Ready
To maximize your manufacturing efficiency, we provide professional Tape and Reel (T&R) packaging for all SMT female headers. We automatically apply high-temperature Kapton tape or plastic pick-up caps so your vacuum nozzles can easily pick and place the components.
Factory-Direct Pricing & Fast Lead Times
As a direct manufacturer of both male and female headers, Tonful guarantees a 100% perfect mating fit. By cutting out the middleman, we provide highly competitive wholesale pricing, flexible MOQ, and rapid global delivery for both standard and custom requirements.
Professional Selection Guide
Step 1: Match the Pitch and Pin Count
The pitch (the center-to-center distance, e.g., 1.27mm, 2.0mm, 2.54mm) and the number of rows (Single/Dual) must exactly match your mating pin header to ensure a correct footprint.
Step 2: Determine Board-to-Board Spacing
Calculate the gap needed between your two PCBs. By selecting the correct plastic profile height of our female header, combined with the specific pin length of the male header, you can achieve the precise stacking height required for your enclosure.
Step 3: Choose the Entry Style
Decide if the mating pin will enter the female header from the top (most common for standard stacking), or if it needs to pass through holes in the PCB to enter from the bottom (Bottom-Entry, ideal for low-profile compact boards).
Step 4: Select the Mounting Technology
Choose between Through-Hole Technology (THT / DIP) for strong mechanical bonds in heavy-duty and high-vibration applications, or Surface Mount Technology (SMT / SMD) for automated, high-density circuitry.
Step 5: Specify the Contact Plating
Choose the finish based on your application's reliability requirements. Gold plating (Flash or Selective) is crucial for signals requiring high mating cycles and low resistance. Tin plating is a highly cost-effective solution for static power connections.
Step 6: Confirm Packaging for Assembly
Before requesting a quote, confirm how your factory will assemble the boards. Select bulk bags or trays for manual DIP soldering, or specify Tape and Reel (T&R) with pick-up caps if you are running automated SMT pick-and-place lines.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled some common questions from our clients. If your question isn’t included here, our customer service is always available to help. We’d love to talk with you.
Q1: Why do you use Phosphor Bronze instead of Brass for female headers?
While brass is excellent for male pins, female contacts require a material with high “spring memory” and fatigue resistance to clamp down on the mating pin repeatedly. Phosphor Bronze offers superior elasticity, ensuring the contact doesn’t lose its grip (retention force) over time.
Q2: What is a "Bottom Entry" female header?
A Bottom Entry female header is mounted on top of a PCB, but it has holes in its base. This allows the mating pin header to come up from underneath the board, pass through the PCB holes, and make contact inside the female housing. It is highly useful for compact board stacking.
Q3: Can I customize the plastic profile height?
Yes. If our standard heights (e.g., 5.0mm, 7.1mm, 8.5mm for 2.54mm pitch) do not meet your exact board-to-board spacing requirements, we can provide custom insulator heights or elevated molded housings.
Q4: Do you offer Tape and Reel (T&R) packaging for female headers?
Yes. For all SMT female headers, we offer Tape and Reel packaging. We can also attach high-temperature Kapton tape (Pick-and-Place pad) or a plastic pick-up cap to the top of the header so your automated SMT machines can easily lift and place the components.
Q5: What is the difference between Gold Flash and Selective Gold plating?
Gold Flash applies a very thin layer of gold over the entire contact, providing basic corrosion resistance and good conductivity for general applications. Selective Gold applies a thicker, specified layer of gold (e.g., 3μ”, 15μ”, 30μ”) only on the critical mating area, while the solder tail is usually tin-plated. This ensures high durability for frequent plugging/unplugging while keeping costs optimized.
