Why Choose TONFUL FPC Connector
Ultra-Low Profile Space-Saving Design
Space is the ultimate luxury in modern electronics. Our FPC connectors feature ultra-low profile heights (as low as 0.9mm) and narrow depths, making them the perfect choice for smartphones, tablets, wearable devices, and flat-panel displays where PCB real estate is extremely limited.
High-Reliability ZIF Mechanisms
Inserting delicate FFC cables can cause terminal damage. Our ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) connectors feature precision flip-locks or slide-locks. You simply open the actuator, drop the cable in with zero friction, and lock it down for a secure, vibration-proof gas-tight connection.
Versatile Contact Options
To simplify your PCB layout and cable routing, we offer Top-Contact, Bottom-Contact, and Dual-Contact configurations. This allows engineers to route the FPC/FFC cable exactly as needed without having to twist or fold the delicate ribbon cable.
High-Temperature LCP for SMT Reflow
Because FPC connectors are almost exclusively Surface Mount (SMT) components, we utilize premium high-temperature LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer) insulators. They easily withstand standard lead-free reflow oven temperatures (up to 260°C) without any dimensional warping.
Exceptional Cable Retention Force
Vibration is the enemy of flex cables. Our actuators are engineered to clamp down firmly on the FPC/FFC cable, providing exceptionally high retention force to prevent accidental pull-outs in automotive dashboards and moving mechanical assemblies.
Automated Assembly Ready (T&R Packaging)
To maximize your factory’s throughput, all Tonful SMT FPC connectors are supplied in professional Tape and Reel (T&R) packaging. The flat upper surface of the connector acts as a natural vacuum pick-up area for high-speed automated pick-and-place machines.
Professional Selection Guide
Step 1: Determine the Pitch and Pin Count
Measure the distance between the center of the conductive pads on your flex cable. The most standard pitches are 0.5mm (for compact devices) and 1.0mm (for larger displays/appliances). Match the exact pin count (circuits) to your cable.
Step 2: Choose ZIF vs. Non-ZIF
Select ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) with a locking actuator for applications requiring high vibration resistance and frequent cable mating. Select Non-ZIF (friction fit) only for cost-sensitive, static applications where the cable is inserted once and rarely touched.
Step 3: Specify the Contact Position
Look at the exposed conductive pads on your flex cable. If the pads face UP away from the PCB, choose a Top Contact header. If they face DOWN toward the PCB, choose a Bottom Contact header. For ultimate flexibility, choose a Dual Contact header.
Step 4: Select the Locking Style
For ZIF connectors, choose your actuator style: Front Flip (easy to operate from the cable entry side), Back Flip (provides higher retention force and is harder to accidentally open), or Slide Lock (pull-out drawer style).
Step 5: Define Mounting Orientation
Choose Right-Angle (Horizontal) if the cable needs to run parallel to the circuit board. Choose Vertical (Straight) if the cable needs to plug straight down into the board from above.
Step 6: Confirm Contact Plating
For standard FFC cables and cost-effectiveness, Tin plating is widely used. However, if your application involves high humidity, corrosive environments, or requires extremely low contact resistance, strictly specify Gold plating.

Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled some common questions from our clients. If your question isn’t included here, our customer service is always available to help. We’d love to talk with you.
Q1: What is the difference between FPC and FFC connectors?
The connector itself is often the same and can accept both. FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) is a thin, etched copper circuit on a polyimide base (custom shaped). FFC (Flexible Flat Cable) is a standard, flat ribbon cable with parallel copper conductors (typically white with blue stiffeners).
Q2: Should I choose a Top Contact or Bottom Contact connector?
It depends entirely on your cable routing. If the exposed metal pads of your flex cable face down towards the PCB when inserted, you need a Bottom Contact. If they face up, you need a Top Contact. Dual Contact connectors have pins on both sides, allowing the cable to be inserted either way.
Q3: What is the advantage of a "Back Flip" ZIF actuator?
In a Back Flip design, the locking lever is on the opposite side of the cable insertion slot. This means that if the cable is accidentally pulled upward, the lever is forced tighter into the locked position, offering significantly higher retention force compared to Front Flip designs.
Q4: Do your FPC connectors require a vacuum pick-up cap for SMT machines?
In most cases, no. Our FPC connectors are designed with a flat actuator or housing surface that provides an integrated pick-and-place area for standard SMT vacuum nozzles. They are supplied in Tape and Reel packaging ready for immediate automated assembly.
Q5: What is the standard MOQ for your FPC connectors?
Since FPC connectors are packaged in Tape and Reel for SMT processing, the MOQ is generally based on the standard reel quantity, which is typically 1,000 to 2,000 pieces per reel depending on the connector’s profile height and pitch.
